TAKING A RIDE ON THE CHILDREN’S RAILWAY

In 1948, the Communist Party of Hungary wanted to teach kids about work. They started a program with 20,000 kids aged 10 to 14. The children would take turns getting a day off school once every 15 days. On that day, directed by adults, they would go to work at the Children’s Railway to learn how to handle money, stamp tickets, and work as a team. It was also a way for them to learn communist values.
